Squiggle Stories

How Marco Polo came to be

Once upon a day there was two boys. One was called Marco and the other one was called Polo. Now Polo liked Marco but Marco hated Polo. So one day when Marco and Polo were playing guns (Marco loaded his but Polo's gun wasn't loaded) Marco shot Polo accidentally. You would think that Marco would be happy that he turned Polo into a Deadly, Man eating, Zombie, Human with his eyes closed. But Marco liked Polo when he was not a Deadly, Man eating, Zombie, Human with his eyes still closed. So Marco said "I liked you better when you were not a Deadly, Man eating, Zombie, Human with your eyes closed. And that meant a lot to Polo, so Polo (Remember he is still a Deadly, Man eating, Zombie, Human with his eyes closed) limped over to Marco and Marco hugged him. Then Polo transformed back into normal Polo not Deadly, Man eating, Zombie, Human with his eyes closed Polo ( But now his eyes were open) So from now on Marco Polo is an real game on earth.
THE END!

P.S This tale is not true ( Well I don't think it is)

Seeps

This is a Seep. You may think it is a sheep but it is not a sheep it is a seep. You see a sheep's lambs are called lambs but seep's lambs are called amps and a sheep has a short tail but seep tails are long to sleep upside down in a tree. As you can tell seeps are one of the weirdest animals known to alien kind, wait they are alien sheep! So sorry I forget I told you about them. NOW FORGETTING PROCESS STARTING NOW BEEP BEEP BLOOP BLOOP PEEP POW good bye.

I am Awesome!!

Why am I Awesome

Hi, I am the one the only Olivia M ( There is some other people called Olivia M but they are not the same as me) I am unique like everyone else but I am also good at telling stories and  making people laugh at the right time.

First of all I am unique . Have you seen anyone quite like me... NO because I'm me and there is no one quite like me.(No one is the same we are all totally different so face it like everyone else) and don't say you have ever seen any one exactly like me because I know that it was not me at all.

Secondly I am great at telling stories about things I did. If you want to see some go to squiggle stories. Every day I will have a story to tell Miss Cooper unless I forget it which happens once or twice a week. If I have no stories to tell I will make one up like this:

There once was a boy named Harry who lived in a jam pie and he ate the jam for breakfast. If the jam ran out more would appear in the pie. See they are so fun to write because they can be anything you want so I love it so tell stories a lot so I get very good at it.

Next I will tell you about how I make people laugh at the right time. That means I will make them laugh at lunch and morning tea not in class time when everyone is working. Last year I was called the clown ( In a good way) by my friend Gemma. I once told a joke to the whole class " What is the difference between a train and a teacher. A teacher says spit out that chewing gum and a train says chew chew and they all laughed.

These are only some of the things that me awesome. One more thing that makes me awesome is that I am modest. It means that you don't like to brag so it means it was hard to write this explanation because you have to say why you are awesome.

Squiggle Story

Space war

We don't know it yet but an alien invasion is coming to earth. King Zouvgen ( King Alien) and the Alien army (A.A) are coming to steal all the toys in the world and if someone gets in his way they will take them to the alien lab and turn them into a soft toy and put them with the rest of the toys he would have stolen. King Zouvgen and the A.A had already gotten half way to earth in 55 years but earth had security and lasers and they were not afraid to use them. Earth's security boss was called Pythington*. Pythington threw a bomb at Zouvgen at exploded in Zouvgen's U.F.O and killed him.
The A.A had no leader so they fought back and destroyed a planet but Pythington shot lasers at all the A.A and they caught on fire and died. So the world was saved. At least for now!

*Pythington mean do or die in alien language and Zouvgen means King

A Letter to Year Five Students of 2016

Dear Year Fives of 2016,

Well, you are in for an awesome year!  You have so many wonderful things to look forward to as a Year Five at Meadowbank School.

A great start to the year is........ E.O.T.C.  This is like a school camp and you do awesome activities and trips during the day.  Some are community based.  We baked delicious food to take to the residents at the rest home. We also hiked up Rangitoto and we did some water safety lessons at the pools.  It was EPIC!

Also in Year Five you will continue Garden to Table.  This will be your last year  of Garden to Table and you get to learn heaps of new skills in the garden and kitchen, so make sure you take advantage of this.  But have fun and enjoy the delicious food you will get to eat.

At the end of the year, you will get to do Bike Safety at school.  Learning some practical things to help keep you safe when you're out and about riding your bikes.

Being a Year Five means heaps of cool things, but it also means lots more responsibilities and there is greater expectations on you both in class and on the playground.

We have been expected to manage ourselves and our workloads in the classroom this year which has taken a bit of getting used to but I know it will mean we are well prepared going into Year Six!

We were also given opportunities to show our responsibility for our peers in Bridging the Gap and Buddy Classes.

Bridging the Gap is when you go over to the Junior School to do special roles, for example being a duty kid at lunchtimes, going into classrooms when its raining and keeping an eye on the junior kids.

For Buddy Class in Year Five we had a Year 2 Class, which has meant we have had a younger year group to look after and support them at school and in their learning.  I have loved being involved with such a lovely group of kids and being able to help them out.

My advice to you is this.....

Year Five is an amazing year.  Enjoy it, get everything you can out of it.  Work hard but have fun!

ARBORIA

ARBORIA!

On Tuesday the 6th of  October  1,00 pm Olivia  M, Sophie M, Amelia M and their  parents Lydia and David went to the one the only

ARBORIA!

If  you are wondering what ARBORIA is it is a giant inflatable maze made of  recycled  ripped pieces of plastic that nobody  wanted  anymore. To get to ARBORIA the eager family rode the train down at Meadow bank station. When they got to ARBORIA  they stopped for some food while David M went to check how long the the wait in the line was for the people who had tickets. There were only one group of people going to ARBORIA who had tickets so when they finished there food they ran to the line so nobody got there before them. They made it just in time, whew! on the way their were lots of people who asked them for some money back the had no money on them so they keep running and they got there. when they were inside the first dome a man told  Olivia, Sophie and Amelia the rules of  ARBORIA:

  1. No running
  2. No jumping on the walls
  3. No sliding on the walls
  4. Have fun!!

Olivia M says  “ Inside each dome it was like an amazing calming bubble where worries slip away and you feel happy with nothing on your mind (except the fact that ARBORIA is awesomely amazing)” There was trees that  went through the roof but they were not real trees they were well I don’t know what they looked  liked I will ask Olivia. So Olivia what did the trees look like? “ They were like colourful pillars coming from the ground to the roof.” And now a quote from Lydia. So Lydia what part did you like the best?  “ I  liked the main dome with colours that overlapped other colours’ thank you  Lydia.” So David  when you enter  the inflatable maze what does it feel like?”  “It makes you feel calm and your worries disappear so you should definitely go there when you get the chance”

“ Ok I will thanks for reading this article  by Ed Swimilh”

The Black Hat

The Black Hat
This is Jacob with his black hat

Hello my name is Jacob. I live in a cottage in the deep, dark and spooky woods with my ancient Granddad. There isn't a lot than I can do around here so I go for long forest walks hoping to find something new. Yesterday you are not going to believe what happened I found a big Black Hat . I was over rejoiced at what I found so I  placed it on my head and went to show Granddad. He looked at at the hat and told me "It is just a normal hat, Sorry Jacob" I was so annoyed at myself  "I can never find anything good or special" I thought but still I kept the hat on my head until it was time to go to bed. So I placed the hat on my bed side table and fell asleep. But I did not know that my high hat was magic which freed magical animals from being imprisoned in the hat for a WHOLE DAY! that is a long time. So they came out of the hat and in all there glory and danced and danced.

I woke up and found the animals dancing on my floor. I got out of my bed to have a look. I wondered where all the amazing creatures had come from, I  was worried that they so escape so I put them into jars and cages, and put them on my shelf.

Each day I would look at them and be memerized at their beauty, but then one day I saw open cage and a bird had escape. I was so sad, so I ran around the wood calling the birds to look for them. I went all around the forest calling his name, until I found at the top of the tallest tree.

"Please come back, I miss you, please come back to me". But he didn't. I went back home feeling heartbroken. When I went to look at my other creatures, I saw the two more had flown away. I remembered the tree, and set off in that direction.

There I found them, at the top of the tree. "Please oh please, come back to me" I shouted. But the birds just flapped their wings and took the air. They were so much more beautiful in flight than in their cages. I knew what I had to do, I ran home to free every animal from their cages. We all went to the tree and had a dance party like friends from long ago, and we danced until I had to go home. I told my granddad all about the black hat and the magic birds and he just said "Get ahold of your imagination Jacob" But I under my breath so nobody heard menever"

The Bridge

One day not so long ago there lived a big grumpy bear and a huge stupid sloth. On that particular day the two enemies meet in the middle of a rickety bridge. The big grumpy bear was not happy with so he tried to shove past him but the were to big to pass each other and this made the big grumpy bear very annoyed. Just then he heard a little "Hissssssssss"and he turned around and saw a baby garter snake the little baby garter snake told him "Can I go along the bridge please" "NO" yelled the big grumpy bear with a furious tone and grabbed the baby garter snake and punched it's head three times then threw him over to the end of the bridge angrily. Now the huge stupid sloth was NOT HAPPY not happy at all (with the bear of course).Just as the huge stupid sloth was going to punch the bear in his snarling face but a little beaver stopped his hand in it's tracks. The little beaver said to the sloth "Why would you do that to a be..." the sloth grabbed  the little beaver and kicked him over to the other side of the bridge. When the beaver reached the other of the bridge the bear and the sloth started to squabble like seagulls... then "CRACK" the beaver was chewing the wood "SNAP" the side of the bridge that the beaver was on broke and the bridge fell but one side was still connected to the side. The bear and the sloth fell to the
      Bottom
                   of
                                   the
cliff. But then there was a BIG problem now the beaver could not get across. So the baby garter snake slithered on the bridge and pulled it to the edge so the beaver could get across.

Steve's Blog of Sadness

One day there was a little boy called Steve. Now he wasn't a normal boy he had a disease which his eyes lower than other human beings but it made him look cuter but still the the other people hated him because they thought he was ugly.So one day a boy in Steve's class called Joe decided to delete all of Steve's blog posts at home. The next day at school Miss Copypod ( The teacher) was marking the things on the blogs and she thought it would be nice show them Steve's writing about the clouds in the sky. So she clicked on the site that said Steve's blog of Sadness and looked for the cloud writing but it was not there in fact there was no posts at all. Miss Copypod was suspicious "Who did this" she said with a serious tone . The next day Miss Taylor came to their class to talk about cyber safety. Obviously Joe was not listening to any of this he was to busy shooting spit bombs at Steve. On the weekend Joe felt a little bad for what he did so he sent a letter to Miss Copypod, Miss Taylor and of course to Steve saying he was sorry for he did it. When he went to school on Monday he had a chat with Miss Copypod talking about why he did it "I did it because I don't like Steve" he said. "Well still you don't ever need to do something like that, it was very mean and Steve is devastated.  Are you ashamed of yourself?" "Yes I am Miss Copypod." "Good now get back to work while I try and get Steve's posts back." Thankfully Miss Copypod was very good with technology so she got 15 of his posts back but the rest were gone forever.

For the birds

It was a wonderful day in Auckland.
The sun was shining luminously.
The clouds floated gracefully across the light blue sky.

A stumpy blue bird spies a spot on the lengthy power line.
He ruffles his feathers vigorously.
Just then another bird comes and sits its bottom alongside him, yawning like a tired hippo.
The first wasn’t happy about this and they started to squabble.
But then another bird, and another join them, and they all started fighting like maniacs.
They look exactly the same, like octuplettes.

All of the kerfuffle is broken by a single noise, a jovial ‘hello’ from a strange different bird.
He was slim, quirky, and playful.
He was a friendly bird, but the other birds didn’t like him.
They started mocking him, making fun of him.
They were being nasty and horrible to him.

But he didn’t care, he persisted.
He flew awkwardly toward them, making a few jerks and wobbles along the way.
He sat down smack bang in the middle of them, squeezing the birds aside.
He was much heavier than the other birds, so heavy that he weighed them all down.
He pulled the power line right down.
The other birds were annoyed, one of them had a horrible idea.
He started pecking furiously at the big birds toes.
The big bird swung upside down like a bat, but he didn’t mind.
The other birds joined in pecking his feet.
Toe by toe, one by one, they pecked his toes off.
The birds were laughing cruelly, except one, who was probably the smartest.
He realized that the bullying they had done was about to come back to bite them.
And indeed it was.

When the last toe was pecked off, the powerline shot up a blinding speed.
It was so fast even a speed camera couldn’t have seen it.
The birds were flung up so rapidly they lost all their newly ruffled feathers.
But what goes up, must come down.
One by one they feel to the solid ground, naked as a newborn baby.
They were so embarrassed, ashamed of their nudity.
Their only refuge was the big bird, who was laughing his beautiful blue head off.

A Cheesy Lesson

There is a place up in the sky that we do not know about. It’s a place called Cheddar- Ville, up beyond the clouds. It’s a place where everybody is either big, or really small.

The big ones are large. I mean like an elephant. Like a giant floating on clouds.
The small ones are tiny, but there’s a lot more of them.

Big or small, they all have one thing in common.
They love to eat space cheese.
You could call them mice people, but they aren't really mice.

The big people (or BUGs as they call themselves: Big Unfriendly Giants) were very greedy and selfish. Because they were bigger, they would bully the little people and steal their cheese if they wanted to.

Now the funny thing about space cheese is that while it’s delicious it also makes you glow really bright, and makes you really sleepy. A deep sleep you just can’t fight.

Now the little people were fed up and hungry. As hungry a starving snake. So one day they decided to teach the BUGs a lesson. They decided to hide their cheese in inside a hollow space rock that had floated astray from the enormous rings of Saturn like a lost sheep.

But before they could, they needed the BUGs to fall asleep, forever. So, they gave the BUGs all the cheese they could find. Heaps and heaps of it. The BUGs were amazed, and thrilled, like a cheater in a herd of Caraboo.

CHOMP CHOMP… the BUGs ate and ate. Filled their tummies to brim. And then one by one they fell into a deep deep slumber.

Now that the little people were free, they could store their cheese in the space rock and they could get and do what ever they needed, whenever they wanted. It’s was a cheese bank.

Now we don’t know this. Because we see the BUGs and the cheese bank as the stars and the moon and when see a half moon, that’s when they have when eaten half their cheese, and when it’s full they have a lot of cheese left.

The BUGs glow like the bank, but they never wake up. So can never steal from the little people again.

The Catch

Hi, my name is Oop, and I am the village fisherman.
It’s my job to catch the fish to feed everyone.
They depend on me.

This is the month when all the water in the lake dries up.
It’s getting harder and harder to catch fish.
I’m getting bored waiting.

But what’s this?
It’s a bite.
Finally!
How exciting.

I pull it in, but it’s a Tidler. How disappointing.
I look back at my village, and I think “This isn't enough to feed my village.”
I feel like I've let them down.

But then I hear a whimper. It sounds like a dog, but there aren't any dogs around here, at least I don’t think there are.
I look through the plants and see a fox with a trap around its leg.
So I get out my knife and raise it high. The fox cowers, and then I cut the rope to free him.
He turns around and charges at me, jumps on me. I’m so scared.
But thankfully he smells something and scampers through the bushes and over to my basket.

I’m worried he’s going to eat the only fish I've caught.
I stare at him sternly with a look that says “don’t you dare”.
He takes off with my fish!
“Hey, that’s my fish and I’m not going to give it up!”.
I chase after him, but he ducks into a hole with thorny brambles.
I look back at my village, and I’m determined to get back my fish.
So I squeeze through, I’m just small enough.

My beige pants catch on a thorn, I pull myself free and continue to chase him.
He hides in a log, I jump on the top and look down, but he’s gone.
I’m confused. How could he disappear?
Just then something like a mini hurricane jumps on to my head and makes me fall off the log. It’s the fox. I need that fish!

I continue chasing him, I catch him!
But he squeezes free, “Oh man” I’m so frustrated.

He starts to climb up a cliff.
I do too.
But my hat get blown away by a gust of wind.
I gaze down in sorrow.my favourite hat floats down to the bottom.
I think, “Oh man, I’m so high up, what if I fall?”
This is scary, but my village needs that fish.
So I gain the courage to keep climbing.
When I reach the top, I see the fox.
But he throws my fish away.
I’m confused. Why did he do that?
Suddenly the mist clears away and the sunlight shines through.
I squint to see a ginormous lake, with fish everywhere.
I am amazed. I’m overjoyed.
But then everything gets darker, a massive shadow passes by.
The biggest fish I've ever seen jumps right in front of me.

Then I realize the fox wasn't trying to stop me feeding my village, he was trying to help me.
I’m so thankful, so grateful.
He’s my friend.
He brushes up against me with a stick, he wants me to fish.
I use it to make a fishing rod, I cast my line into the lake.
I’m hopeful I will catch some giant fish.

After a day of fishing, I walk home with a big fish and a medium fish.
I throw the medium to the fox and continuing walking to the village to share the news.
I’m proud I've done my job, I relieved everyone will have enough to eat.

But when I’m not looking, the fox turns into its true self.
A spirit that was there to help me.

My Key Competency Goal Reflection

I have not achieved this goal because my desk is never tidy and I still chat in class, but I am continuing to work on this and trying hard to be less distracted.  Miss Cooper is also helping me with this, by assigning me tasks so I know exactly what I need to do and by when.

My Writing Goal Reflection

I have been working hard to write faster and get my ideas down in a quicker and more timely way.  I still need to focus on planning out my ideas to make this even faster.  I will work on this more.

My Reading Goal Reflection

I have worked hard to use more descriptive and interesting words in my writing and oral language, but I think I can still do better.  I have been reading Harry Potter so a lot of the words are made up, so I might read some other books that might help me to achieve this goal.

My Maths Goal Reflection

I have been getting my mum to do quizzes for me at home to help me get a better understanding of the subtraction and addition and to make it much quicker and easier for me to find the correct answer to the problems.  I think I have achieved this goal through working hard each week.

The Clocktower

Once upon a time there was a little girl called Sarah who wanted to help make the world a happy place because no one was ever happy or excited even if it was someone's birthday. One day on her birthday when she blew out her candles, she wished that she could help the world to be a better place.

That night magic flew all around her bedroom and it hit the old Clocktower and the whole world went grey and stopped, then another spark flew and hit Sarah... In the morning Sarah woke up but she was not at home in her bed she was in the old Clocktower which did not look old anymore instead it was colourful and full of life. She looked out the window and saw a world that was plunged into darkness but why? she thought. Sarah looked down and saw that her dress had a cog on the bottom.

She saw what she needed to do, so she she pointed her toes and turned around and around on her tippy-toes and the world became colourful and bright. The years past and she kept on turning but occasionally going out side. Meanwhile her parents were worried and scared where had their Sarah gone? So every year on Sarah's birthday they would let balloons go and watch them fly into the air as a symbol of her remembrance.

My sleepover with Gemma

"Ding Dong". "Yes she`s here, I've been waiting forever" I yelled as Gemma opened the door. We ran into my room and  talked like chatterboxes about what we were going to do today until Mum said "time to go to the movie, Home" "Yay" everyone said.

So we drove to Silvia Park and went to Pak'nsave to get some lollies for the movie. When we got into the cinema the adds had finished and the movie started. My favourite Boov's name was "Oh" because nobody likes him. The movie was so COOL. Next we drove McDonalds for dinner. After that we drove home to eat the McDonalds. Then Mum said we could watch a movie on Netflix so we slipped into our pyjamas and chose a movie. We chose James and the giant peach. So we watch it and talked. Then we went to bed; Mum was happy about that!

ANZAC poem

ANZAC

People of ANZAC went to the war
Their pain  was much worse than slamming their hand in a door
The wind in their hair
Bombs flying though the air
There is barely any food to share

Thank you for your sacrifice!!!

Flintstone Car!

The Flintstone Car!

On Wednesday we had youth town for EOTC week.
First we got sorted in to our groups I was with my best friend-------------------------> Gemma! we were in group D.Our first activity was the flintstone car.It was my favourite activity.

The first thing that the man did  was show us some knots that we would use to make the car. Then he let us try them out on a piece of bamboo.Next he showed us a knot that would hold the car together.

Then we started building our flintstone car.We slid a piece of bamboo through each one of the barrels.Next we put two  pieces of bamboo across the pieces bamboo that were in the barrels. We made the seat and tied it all down and we were done!

Then we got to ride the flintstone car me ,Eve and Jacob got to ride it first. We got a second turn but that was not so fun for me because I got run over! I went to sick bay to get a plaster. When I got back they had taken the car apart. I was sad because it was so fun!

See you soon!
